we constantly live inside our own heads. literally all the time. we know our own intentions, our stories, our reasons and our choices that we make - so much so that it can sometimes feel that our perspective is the only one that matters. but what happens when we step out of our skin for a second? for a moment? what happens when we try to see what someone else might see in us? this isnāt about being a people-pleaser or bending yourself to fit someone elseās cookie cutter vision of you. as cliche as it sounds, itās all about perspective. it is about looking at yourself as if youāre a character in someone elseās story, stepping a little further away from your own emotions.Ā
we all have encountered mirrors before: where we look at our own reflection and adjust those strands of hair, or wiping away that little bit of lipstick that ran outside of the lines. we check if we look āokayā. but emotional mirrors are way harder to find. they come in the form of how we make people feel, the energy we bring into a room and even the words we choose when we speak. your assertiveness could look intimidating to another, your silence could look like disinterest to another. itās not about judgement, but awareness.Ā
seeing yourself from someone elseās perspective doesnāt mean losing yourself: it means holding up another mirror and saying āoh. i didnāt realizeā. sometimes its beautiful, sometimes it surprises us, and sometimes it gives us a chance to grow.Ā
